Overview

If you struggle with stubborn areas of localized fat that don't go away with a healthy diet and exercise, liposuction with The Plastic Surgery Group of Memphis could be the answer.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure that helps you get a slimmer, refined look by targeting and removing stubborn fat.

This popular body contouring method allows our board certified surgeons* ** to re-sculpt specific areas of your body, including the thighs, abdomen, 武器, 回来, 臀部, buttocks, 胸部, 脸, calves, and ankles.

Who's a good candidate for liposuction?

The best liposuction results are achieved when a patient is in good overall health with a stable body weight but has localized fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise.

Liposuction is the surgical removal of fat and can succeed in removing fat where other methods have failed, but it's not a method for losing weight and is not effective in eliminating cellulite, or tightening loose, sagging skin.

How does the liposuction procedure work?

Liposuction is a multi-step surgery that is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. The targeted fat is accessed through small incisions, and a thin tube is used to suction fat from the area being treated.

The small incisions are then closed. Once healing is complete, patients are left with improved contours and proportions.

Fat will not return to the treated area after surgery, and as long as a patient’s weight remains stable, liposuction results are long-lasting. However, liposuction does not remove all fat cells, so it is still possible to regain weight.

To maintain results, it is important to stick to a healthy diet and exercise routine. Once the targeted fat is removed with liposuction, some excess skin may remain. For this reason, liposuction is often combined with another body contouring procedure, such as a tummy tuck or thigh lift.

There are many different methods of liposuction available. When you schedule a consultation with The Plastic Surgery Group of Memphis, our surgeons will discuss which technique is right for you and your body.

What is the liposuction recovery process like?

Following a liposuction procedure, patients will need to spend some time resting and will be given a special compression garment to wear to ensure proper healing. Stitches will be removed during a follow-up visit soon after surgery.

Although some swelling and bruising will occur, these are common side effects that are only temporary. As the swelling subsides, the results of liposuction will be visible.

Patients are generally able to return to work and regular activities as soon as they feel comfortable, which may be as soon as just a few days after surgery. Exercise and other strenuous activities should be avoided for at least a few weeks.
